OUR MISSION

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of DC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy so that every abused and neglected child in the DC foster care or juvenile justice system can be safe, establish permanence and have the opportunity to thrive. This mission is carried out through the recruitment, training, and support of volunteer advocates (CASA volunteers) who serve youth in DC.

CASA for Children of DC is heartbroken and grieving over George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, Dion Johnson, Sean Reed, and every person of color murdered by a system of racism and violence. WHAT WE DO

CASA for Children of DC is a leading voice in advocacy for court-involved youth in the District of Columbia. CASA DC connects specially-trained volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates to support vulnerable and at-risk youth in foster care and the juvenile justice system. CASA volunteers develop a mentor-like relationship with their youth and advocate for their youth’s best interests in Court, promoting greater outcomes and the opportunity to thrive.

Our Goal is To Ensure That Every Court-Involved Youth in D.C. Has a CASA.

"My CASA volunteer Samaura advocated on my behalf to my other team members and what I wanted finally started being heard by my team. I called her the glue to my team because she was always picking up loose ends from other team members and always there for me when I needed her."

Dijonia, Former Foster Youth

Building a Brighter Future for DC Youth

Children who have experienced abuse or neglect fare better with a CASA volunteer by their side. Studies have shown:

They are more likely to find a safe & PERMANENT HOME

THEY ARE MORE LIKELY TO SUCCEED IN SCHOOL

THEY ARE LESS LIKELY TO RE-ENTER THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM
